Our origins

It was my father and mother who originally discovered this property. When they brought me here, I thought they were crazy: an old farmhouse falling apart with lots of meadows and a small old abandoned vineyard. But then we entered the property together, and I began to see what at first seemed like a disaster, as a great opportunity: Pozzol Groppo, a small farming village in the Tortona hills, was the perfect place to fulfill our family’s dream and completely change our lives. In the summer of 1998, the whole Ghislandi family moved from the chaotic Milano lifestyle to this little corner of paradise in the southeast of Piedmont, and “I Carpini” was born.  The winery takes its name from the Hornbeam trees, “Carpini” in Italian, which grow spontaneously here and naturally contribute to the beauty of the landscape. Their presence, at the gate entrance, is a reminder of how important are the autochthonous varietals to us since they contribute to the biosphere of our life. Since 2018 my son Riccardo has become an active part of this life project…
